ILWU Longshore Caucus, May 17, 2004 - May 21, 2004
Resolution to support the ILA in their 2004 Negotiations
WHEREAS, all longshore workers share common interests and working conditions,
WHEREAS, West coast and east coast longshore workers share common employers,
WHEREAS, the ILA supported our union during our difficult negotiations with the PMA,
WHEREAS, the ILWU currently works with the ILA on our "Unity on the Waterfront" campaign,
WHEREAS, the employers have pressured and attacked the east coast union, by creating permanent tiers in wages and health insurance while eliminating decent retirements,
WHEREAS, the employers are attempting, on both coasts, to use new technology to eliminate union work and go non-union,
WHERE AS an injury to one is an injury to all and a weaker east coast contract will undermine our own wages, benefits and working conditions,
BE IT RESOLVED: The ILWU will support our east coast brothers and sisters in resisting employer attacks on wages, benefits and union work and will stand in solidarity with the ILA during their negotiations.
